The City of San Francisco
Ellis O’Farrell Parking Corporation was incorporated in 1964
under the laws of the State of California as a non-profit corporation
for the primary purpose of aiding and assisting the City in acquiring
and operating the public parking garage located at 123 O’Farrell
Street in downtown San Francisco. The Garage presently has parking
capacity for approximately 1,020 vehicles on 10 levels, and has
approximately 11,000 square feet of leased commercial retail space
on the street level. The Corporation is governed by a 10-member
Board of Directors, and
has one full-time employee who serves as the Corporate Manager.
Through an open RFP bid process, the Corporation
contracts with a professional parking operator for the day-to-day
management of the parking operation. The current operator, Parking
Concepts, Inc., was awarded the contract in May 2002.
The Corporation works directly with the City’s
Department of Parking and Traffic and submits an annual
operating plan and budget to DPT, as well as the City Controller’s
Office. Majority of the garage revenues is returned to the City’s
Municipal Railway to support public transits. The remaining portion
is retained by the Corporation to maintain and make capital improvements
to the Garage.
The Corporation operates the garage with community
in mind. Its objective is to provide affordable, convenient public
parking for visitors to the Union Square / Downtown area, and offering
the highest level of customer service in a clean / safe facility.
The Garage is an amenity of the community it serves. The Corporation
actively participates in the Union Square Association and the Union
Square Business Improvement District (B.I.D.).
